The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Yes, I realize it’s crazy that I’m 29 years old and I’ve never read The Great Gatsby. BUT better late than never! I just finished this American classic and just loved it. The Great Gatsby is a quick read, and I just loved all the descriptions of New York City and Long Island in the roaring twenties. Nick Carraway deeply analyzes Jay Gatsby, giving the reader a full sense of how wealthy, mysterious and ultimately how desperate this man is. Nick is distant cousins with Daisy Buchanan, which we later learn is the woman Gatsby has been madly in love with for years, even though he hasn’t seen her since their brief romance five years prior. Throughout the book you get the fascinating development of Nick and Gatsby’s friendship, the messy love triangle with Daisy, her husband Tom and Gatsby, a glimpse into Nick’s affair with Jordan Baker and finally, an ending I did not see coming. Whether you haven’t read The Great Gatsby or are thinking about reading it again, either way I highly recommend. I did love this story and will definitely be a book I read again in the future.
So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.
