Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

Rating: 5 out of 5.

I loved everything about this book- from start to finish I was completely enthralled! Where the Crawdads Sing chronicles the life of Kya Clark from her unfortunate childhood to the beautiful, independent woman she has become. Kya lives on the outskirts of town in the marsh where she was seemingly abandoned by everyone and everything she once knew. The locals look down on the “marsh people” and she is constantly bullied and embarrassed causing her to drop out of school and find solace in the marsh.

Kya learns to survive off the marsh but starts longing for human connection. Over time she is befriended by a couple loyal marsh people and the popular football boy from in town. When the football boy, Chase, is found dead rumors swirl about possible motives and suspects. Chase has been seen on the marsh with Kya before, but why would he be hanging around the marsh girl and what motive would she have to kill him?

The main character in this book will tug on your heartstrings and make you feel everything she is feeling. Owens’ writing is beautifully poetic, her descriptions will leave you longing for more. Where the Crawdads Sing has easily become my favorite book of the year. You will not regret going on Kya’s journey with her and the imagery that goes along with it.

Happy reading!
