The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory

Rating: 3 out of 5.

If you’re looking for a light, semi romantic, summer read then this one’s for you! The Proposal follows Nikole Paterson from her shocking proposal, and denial, on the Dodgers jumbotron, to her fun rebound with Dr. Carlos Ibarra.

After Nikole turns down a proposal in front of everyone at Dodger stadium AND those watching from home, Carlos and his sister come to her rescue and whisk her away to safety. It’s the start of a budding “friends with benefits” relationship but as the lines start to get a little blurry they’re faced with the reality of the situation.

I loved the diversity of the characters in this book and how we learned more about their families and friendships throughout. Overall, I did not think there was much substance to the book, it was lacking a sense of mystery. Maybe that’s just my preference, but probably a quarter through the book I could have told you how it was going to end. However, I did like the feminist tone throughout the book and the entrepreneurial characters. It’s definitely a light, feel-good type of read that would be perfect for enjoying while lounging on the beach!
