Season 5 | Episode 1

Potomac is baaaaack and the first episode did NOT disappoint, y’all. I just recently binged season 4 so I was so excited for season 5 to start. The episode begins with us seeing broken glass and hearing the women argue… then a “seven weeks earlier” flashback. I’m already hooked.

We start with seeing Monique, her husband Chris and their adorable 9 month old son Chase. Oh, and their parrot, T’Challa who goes everywhere with Monique. I love Monique but I hate birds so I personally cannot get behind this pet. Monique and T’Challa head to Karen’s new house in Potmac where Karen reveals her and Ray aren’t doing so well as she’s been travelling a lot and is busy with her new perfume line. I hope Ray can get over this and support Karen, there ain’t nothing wrong with your woman building an empire, Ray!

We learn Gizelle is back with her ex-husband, Jamal, which she hinted at in the season 4 reunion. Gizelle’s 3 daughters, however, don’t seem to be pleased with their parents getting back together which says A LOT in my opinion. Normally you would think your children would be thrilled to hear their parents are getting back together after being divorced for several years, but this does not seem to be the case with their children. Jamal has a history of cheating and they don’t want their mom to get hurt again. Love that they’re looking out for their mama and I hope Gizelle ends up making the right decision.

Then, not surprisingly, we see Candiace and Chris planning an over-the-top one year anniversary party for themselves that’s going to cost them well over $20,000. We’ll come back to this later.

We then meet baby Dean, Ashley and Michael’s newborn son. Ashley seems to be a little overbearing but honestly I’m not a mom so I’m not here to judge how anyone acts with their son or daughter.

Next we see Robyn laying down the law with Juan about them getting married. She essentially says they are not moving into a bigger house together or moving forward unless they get married which Juan agrees. This leaves Robyn teary-eyed and I really hope they work out between them this time.

Now we’re dessert tasting with Candiace and Gizelle for Candiace’s anniversary party. Gizelle has a little bit of beef with her regarding some of Candiace’s tweets, but things seem to end things okay between them though… for now.

Finally, we’re at Candiace and Chris’ party. Candiace and Gizelle immediately go off to the side (with Karen in tow of course), which Gizelle proceeds to tell Candiace if they are going to work through their issues, Candiace needs to listen. This conversation ultimately goes nowhere though, and now it’s time for speeches!

Karen and Mama Dorothy make speeches and Karen’s speech is… well… awkward, at best. Nothing like making a speech about martial advice just to say your marriage is going south after 23 years! Oh, Karen.

Also, at this party we finally (sort of) meet Wendy, RHOP’s newest lady! She seems to instantly hit it off with Monique, although Karen is not impressed with Wendy. Why, Karen? I guess we’ll have to keeping watching to find out.

Also side note here – who is this Charrisse girl and what are these rumors she’s supposedly spreading about Monique? I need to know more!! The episode suddenly ends frozen on Monique’s face then we’re back at the same broken glass image we saw at the beginning of the episode, and it looks like it is going DOWN next week between Candiace and Monique.
