The Lies That Bind by Emily Giffin

Rating: 5 out of 5.

I could not put this book down when I started reading it! It instantly is one of my new favorites. The Lies That Bind takes place in the heart of New York City in the early 2000s. 28 year-old reporter Cecily Gardner is feeling sad and lonely after breaking up with her longtime boyfriend, Matthew. After not being able to sleep, around 2 A.M. she gets up and goes to the local dive bar near her apartment.

Letting her loneliness take over, Cecily reaches for the phone to call Matthew – when all of a sudden a guy (Grant) behind her says, “Don’t do it – you’ll regret it.” Not sure why, but Cecily listens to him and the two of them form a deep and unlikely connection in the early morning hours in this dive bar.

There’s something that Cecily can’t shake of Grant, and the two of them get serious, fast. Then the horror of 9/11 rocks NYC and the rest of the world where Grant all of a sudden goes missing. Cecily is reeling with questions – how well did she really know Grant? Was there connection genuine? In the wake of this tragedy Cecily’s reporting job leaves her discovering so much about a man she thought she knew – and leaves her with even more questions.

Like I said before, I could not put this book down! It was totally different than what I expected (in a good way) and would definitely add it to your reading list.

Happy reading!
